A distinct subgroup, referred as the "lowlands branch," possesses more monstrous features, including claws, horns, and exaggerated traits. Members of the Vile Tribe have exceptional longevity and can cast spells without chanting, setting them apart from other races like humans and Beastmen.
The Tribe's origins are uncertain. Some sources describe them as "magic made flesh," implying they were born directly from magical energy. Others suggest a link to an ancient Magic Empire, with the Tribe being either descendants of its people or creations born of its magical experimentation.
Members of the Vile Tribe can interbreed with humans, a fact that could blur the line between their race and the other inhabitants of Lunar.

The Vile Tribe traditionally lives in isolation due to their banishment to the Frontier, a desolate region. Their culture emphasizes survival, magical mastery, and loyalty to their leaders. Those outside the Frontier, primarily humanoid members, faced widespread prejudice, leading to dwindling numbers over the centuries.

The Vile Tribe was once an integral part of Lunar's magical society and maintained strong ties to the city of Vane. Their exceptional magical abilities were both admired and feared.
The Vile Tribe's ambition to conquer Lunar led to divine intervention by Goddess Althena, who banished the Tribe to the Frontier. This punishment isolated them from other civilizations and forced the Tribe into a harsh and unforgiving environment.
About 150 years before the events of Lunar: The Silver Star, the Vile Tribe had all but disappeared from Vane, with only a few individuals remaining. Ghaleon was the last known member of the Tribe still residing in the magical city, marking the near extinction of their presence in the broader world.
The Silver Star[]
During the events of Lunar: The Silver Star and its remakes, the Vile Tribe allied with Ghaleon to escape the Frontier and reclaim their place in the world. Their activities brought them into conflict with Alex and his companions. The Tribe's defeat marked the end of their immediate threat.
